Reiki: A Deep Understanding

Full Transcript

Hi everyone. I’m Julie. I’m an Usui Holy Fire Reiki Master Teacher and founder of Jiva Reiki School where I teach people how to live a happier and healthier life. Today, we are going to be taking a deeper look at Reiki. As we know, Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Japanese kanji has an ideogram that represents Reiki. It comes in two parts: Rei and Ki.

Rei, as we know means Spiritual Wisdom. This is represented in the Japanese Kanji first by the three lines at the bottom that represent earth. Then, three semi-circles which represent the mind, body, and the spirit of the Reiki practitioner. Then, the lines at the top represent heaven. This is so beautiful. It means the Reiki practitioner is the conduit for bringing heaven to earth. Wow! This means the Reiki practitioner is the conduit for bringing heaven to earth. Wow! As Reiki people and Reiki practitioners this is so beautiful. We can find a beautiful and deeper meaning in this Japanese kanji. As we know, Rei, means Spiritual Wisdom. This part, the Rei part, is what makes Reiki different from other energy healing modalities. Rei, knows what is best for your best and highest good. Rei, is Spiritual Divine Wisdom that is transcendental and goes beyond the material mind. Rei, knows how to heal you for your best and highest good. Reiki, knows that we are unique and different people. So, Rei taylors the healing perfectly to you.

And, then there is Ki. Which comes below Rei. This represents a fire with a pot of rice. Then, steam coming from the pot of rice, which represents the spiritual, life enhancing properties of rice. Ki is Life Energy. Many different cultures and religions recognize Ki, they just use a different name for it. In Chinese, they call it chi. In Sanskrit, they call it prana. In the scientific community they call it the bioenergy field around us. It is very well recognized and well know that there is Ki, or Life Energy. When you increase your Ki you are more susceptible to health, happiness, and joy.

What we are going to be doing here today is building our relationship with Reiki. Just like anything, you can build and strengthen your relationship with Reiki. It’s like going to the gym. You got to the gym to build your muscles to get stronger. That is the same thing we are going to be doing here today. There are many ways to build your relationship with Reiki. The first way, is daily self Reiki. The second way, is by getting Reiki done to you by another Reiki practitioner. The third way, is by meditating on the Reiki kanji or if you are a Reiki II practitioner or higher, by meditating on the Reiki symbols.

As, some of you might know, I am here in India studying for six months. So, I will be incorporating what I am learning here in India into our Reiki practice. One thing that is very common here in India, is Japa or mantra meditation. We are going to be applying this concept to Reiki. This will help us meditate on Reiki.

So, sit up nice and tall. Elongate your spine. Close your eyes. Just start to focus on  your breath. The inhale and the exhale. Let go of anything that may be on your mind. Let go of your to-do list. Let go of  your expectations. Let go of your story. Let go of worries, anxieties and fears. Just allow yourself to be fully present. Give yourself permission to be fully present in this moment, right now! Follow along with me. Keep your eyes closed. Bring your hands to your lower belly. On your inhale, fill up your lower belly. Feel your lower belly rise and expand.  Exhale all of your stale air or Ki out of your lower belly. Feel your lower belly fall. Inhale, lower belly rises and expands. Exhale, lower belly falls. Inhale, lower belly rises and expands. Exhale, lower belly falls. Move your hands now to your rib-cage. On your inhale, inhale, lower belly, rib cage. Feel your rib-cage rise and expand. Exhale, rib-cage, lower belly. Inhale, lower belly, rib-cage rises. Exhale, rib-cage, lower belly. Inhale, lower belly, rib-cage rises. Exhale, rib-cage, lower belly. Move your hands to your heart now. On your inhale: Inhale, lower belly, rib-cage, heart. Feel your heart rise and expand. Exhale, heart, rib-cage, lower belly. Inhale, lower belly, rib-cage, heart rises. Exhale, heart, rib-cage, lower belly. Continue to take deep, 3-part breaths, like this. Circulating your own Ki, or Life Energy. Slow down your breath. Slowing down your mind. Return your breath back to normal. Release your hands. Slowly, flicker your eyes open.

So, what we are going to be doing is looking with our eyes, at the Japanese kanji and repeating, “Rei. Ki. Reiki.” So, we are going to be fixing our full attention on Reiki. So, preparing, sitting up nice and tall and taking a deep breath. Then, staring at the Japanese kanji and repeat, “Rei.Ki. Reiki.”

*Repeat, “Rei.Ki.Reiki” for 1 minute*

Now, close your eyes, and mentally repeat, “Rei.Ki.Reiki” and try the best you can to visualize the Japanese Kanji as, I beam you Reiki.

Place your hands over your heart and sit feeling and noticing any feelings, vibrations, and sensations from the Reiki. Maybe you feel a feeling of peace or calmness. Maybe you feel tingling, heat, or pressure. Just sit. Notice if Reiki sent you any messages through your thoughts and your feelings. When you are ready, release your hands and slowly flicker your eyes open. Know that you can come back to this video at any time and do this short Reiki meditation to deepen your relationship with Reiki.

Sending you all my Reiki Love this week!
